Doha, Qatar: The Music Affairs Centre, under the Ministry of Culture, will present the first concert by the Maqam Choir on Saturday, October 10 at Dukhan Theatre at the Ministry of Culture, offering an a cappella experience that reinterprets selected works from the Arab musical heritage through local voices arranged across four vocal parts.

The concert forms part of the Centre’s efforts to discover and nurture local talent while providing emerging voices with new opportunities to perform before the public.
Scheduled to begin at 8:30pm, the concert will be led by choir trainer and conductor Sereen Abdullah, who has overseen the preparation and training of Maqam’s members ahead of their first full concert, marking an important stage in the choir’s development since rehearsals began.

Speaking about the concert, Abdullah said Maqam Choir has focused on using the human voice as the fundamental element in constructing its musical arrangements, with the singers divided into four vocal parts that interact and blend to highlight the richness of Arab melodies.

“The approach gives the selected works a different choral treatment while preserving their original identity and spirit,” she said.

Abdullah noted that the concert comes after a period of intensive rehearsals focused on developing harmony among the choir members and strengthening their collective performance.
