Doha, Qatar: Minister of Transport H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla bin Mohammed Al Thani has said Hamad Port has become one of the most advanced ports in the region thanks to its advanced infrastructure and growing capacity.

Qatar's delegation led by the Minister of Transport participated in the Maritime Cyprus 2025 Conference.

The event was inaugurated in Limassol by President of the Republic of Cyprus H E Nikos Christodoulides. In attendance were many Arab and foreign transportation and shipping ministers, chiefs of global organisations such as the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the EU, and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS).

Represented by the MoT, Qatar participates in this international event to emphasise its leading role in fostering global maritime cooperation and commitment to supporting the world efforts that aim at developing a sustainable global maritime transportation ecosystem. The MoT has several initiatives and projects focused on enhancing the national development in economic, environmental and human areas, in step with the goals of the Qatar NDS3, MoT Strategy 2025-2030, and QNV 2030.

Addressing the meeting, attended by several Arab and foreign transportation and shipping ministers, the Minister highlighted the importance of maritime routes for global economy and said that any disarray in them reflects immediately on stability of markets and economic development, something which makes their security and sustainability a shared international responsibility.

Highlighting Qatar’s ongoing efforts to develop its maritime industry, the Minister said Hamad Port has become one of the most advanced ports in the region thanks to its advanced infrastructure and growing capacity. He also said that Qatar continues cementing its regional and international partnerships to ensure the flow of trade, safely and efficiently.

Additionally, the Minister said that Qatar developed a national strategy for logistics services sector to transform the country into a leading global hub in transportation and supply chains through diversifying modes of transportation, developing the logistics zones and connecting them with sustainability goals in line with national development goals and the QNV 2030.

The Minister of Transport also met Minister of Transport, Communications and Works of the Republic of Cyprus H E Alexis Vafeades, on the sidelines of the conference.

The two ministers discussed bilateral relations in the areas of maritime transportation and ports, and ways to enhance and take them to new heights, particularly regarding using advanced technologies in the assisting logistics services.

Topics on maritime navigation developments were also discussed.

Qatar’s Ambassador to Cyprus H E Yousef Sultan Laram attended the meeting.
