Doha, Qatar: The Public Works Authority, Ashghal, has announced the start of construction on the Environmental and Radiological Laboratories project.

The project aims to enhance Qatar's capacity for environmental and radiological monitoring and analysis, in accordance with international standards.

Spread over an area of about 44,880 square meters, the multi-storey main building will comprise a basement, ground floor, first floor, along with an external building dedicated to radioactive waste management.

With broad hallways, designated facilities, signages, ramps and parking near main entrances, the project has been designed to meet the needs of individuals with disabilities.

The building's engineering and architectural design complies with the highest safety and quality standards, providing environmentally responsible and sustainable amenities that contribute to a safer and healthier community in the future.

The project follows the GSAS sustainability system, targeting a 3-star rating for energy efficiency, environmental protection, and air, water, and material quality.

In line with Qatar’s support for local products, Ashghal stated that approximately 70% of the materials used in the project—such as steel, electrical and mechanical components, glass, and aluminum—will be locally sourced.

The facility includes three main sections—radiological laboratories, supporting laboratories, and administrative offices—with additional buildings such as a radioactive waste storage unit, security control center, and smart surveillance systems.

The project upholds the highest quality, safety, and sustainability standards and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
