QBA discusses investment opportunities in Tanzania

Doha: The Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA) met with the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H E Samia Soluho Hassan, on the sidelines of her current visit to the country, to discuss ways of possible investment opportunities between the two countries in various economic fields.

The meeting was attended by Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, QBA Chairman and from QBA board members Sherida Al Kaabi and Saud Al Mana, and from QBA members Ashraf Abu Issa, Youssef Al Mahmoud, Ihsan Al Khaymi, and Rashid Al Mansouri, CEO of Aamal Holding Group, in addition to Sarah Abdullah, QBA Deputy GM. On the Tanzanian side, it was attended by Dr. Achato Kijagi, Minister of Industry, Investment and Trade, Dr. Mohadi Juma’a Maalem, Ambassador of the United Republic of Tanzania to Doha, and a number of CEOs of energy, tourism and investment companies.

The President of the United Republic of Tanzania Ms. Samia Soloho, revealed that Qatar and Tanzania have huge potentials to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade exchange, investment promotion, tourism, gas exploration, port development, agriculture, energy and other fields, noting that Qatar and Tanzania have always enjoyed historical bilateral relations, these Friendly relations became stronger after the opening of the embassies of the two countries and the exchange of high-level visits between the leaders of  Qatar and Tanzania. “Today, we confirm our deep goals to build strategic partnerships that will positively contribute to the economies of the two countries,” she added.

For his part, Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, QBA Chairman spoke about the wealth in resources that are still being exploited in the Republic of Tanzania, in addition to the political stability that encourages investments. Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim indicated on behalf of Qatari businessmen that there are real investment opportunities in the fields of tourism, agriculture and energy support projects, stressing out that the association will visit Tanzania as part of a high-level delegation after the World Cup.

QBA Chairman also stressed that there is a common interest to develop bilateral collaboration, in light of the enormous potentials of both countries, pointing out that the Qatari businessmen are keen to learn about the opportunities available in Tanzania and to benefit from its natural resources, agricultural lands and its strategic location. 

During the meeting, the delegation accompanying the president gave an overview about the investment environment in Tanzania and the incentives provided by the Tanzanian government to investors, noting that Tanzania has investment opportunities in a number of sectors and in many regions other than Zanzibar, such as support services for energy projects in transportation and pipelines and other projects linking the country with its neighbors, in addition to Tanzania’s exploration industry that receives a large share of export earnings.

It is worth noting that Tanzania has about 48.1 million hectares of C and water and produces many agricultural food crops such as maize, rice, millet, sorghum and wheat.

Also, the relations between Qatar and Tanzania are growing, and the volume of trade exchange has reached 300 million riyals last year, compared to 169 million riyals in 2020, a growth of 70 percent.
