Doha: Asian champions Qatar are gearing up to face Portugal at the European Qualifiers match to be played on October 9.

After reaching Portugal on Sunday, Qatar started their five-day training camp the following day in Faro, Portugal.

Al Annabi will also play against Ireland in Dublin on October 12, hoping for an improved show against the two sides.

Qatar had lost to Portugal 1-3 in the first leg and shared points with Ireland following a 1-1 draw.

Qatar squad selected by Sanchez includes Meshaal Barsham, Saad Al Sheeb, Akram Afif, Hassan Al Haydos, Muhammad Waad, Musab Khader, Pedro Miguel, Tarik Salman, Abdul Karim Hassan, Youssef Abdurizag and Ali Asad (Al Sadd) Salah Zakaria, Bassam Al Rawi, Assim Madibo, Al Moez Ali, Karim Boudiaf, Mohamed Muntari, Abdullah AbdelSalam (Al Duhail) Ahmed Alaa , Homam Al Amin, Youssef Hassan (Al Gharafa) Abdullah Marafie and Ahmed Fathi (Al Arabi), Abdel Aziz Hatem (Al Rayyan), Khaled Munir (Al Wakrah) and Ahmed Moeen (Qatar SC).

The team will return to Doha on October 13 after which the players will join their respective clubs.

UEFA invited Al Annabi to participate in the European Qualifiers as part of their preparations for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which Qatar will host.

Qatar accordingly joined Group A along with Portugal, Serbia, Republic of Ireland, Luxembourg and Azerbaijan; they are playing their ‘home’ matches in Europe in order to facilitate short travel times for their opponents.

As the next World Cup host nation, Qatar are qualified for the tournament, so their results in Group A will not count towards qualification.
