A strong contingent of new graduate and undergraduates students have been welcomed to the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) as the school remains committed to The Qatar National Health Strategy.

Hissa Al Aali, Associate Director for the College of Nursing Project, made reference to the strategy as she welcomed back over 450 current students as well as more than 50 others who were accepted into the programme. “I see in you the bright future of nursing and healthcare in Qatar. I see in you the nurse, the scientist, the professor and the healthcare professional. I see in you the future of Qatar as envisioned by the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the beacon of science, the land of innovations and the compass for scientists and research,” she said
UCQ Director of Student Services Justin Williams said that he is excited to see the increase in not just the number of students applying to participate in the programme, but also in the level of education those students are bringing to UCQ. “This growth in the number and caliber of our applicants seems to be a clear indication of the high esteem in which the profession is coming to be regarded in Qatar. We received over 300 applications for the spots available in our program this year.”
Dean and CEO Kim Critchley said that she is proud that the new students at the University of Calgary in Qatar, will not just contribute to the healthcare system in Qatar, but will also be eligible to access increased educational opportunities at UCQ. “Our convocation this fall will see a graduating class of 48, and we certainly look forward to the first group from the graduate program who will complete their studies this fall with a Master of Nursing degree. We have an exciting announcement coming soon about a new focus for our Master of Nursing program”.
