DOHA: Brazilian football legend Zico yesterday said Qatar had sufficient time to develop a good side for the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Zico, 60, was unveiled as the new Al Gharafa coach yesterday.

“I think they have enough time to make a good team,” Zico said Al Gharafa Stadium yesterday.

“They have good young talent in this country and let’s not forget what amazing facilities,” the Brazilian said.

“I can see young talent coming up and they can be groomed for the World Cup (to be held in Qatar in 2022),” he said.

Zico will coach the former Qatar Stars League (QSL) champions for two years.

For a man who scored an astonishing 52 goals in 72 matches for Brazil, Zico said he enjoyed coaching clubs compared to managing national teams.

“I like coaching clubs. Managing clubs helps you to evolve as a coach,” Zico said.

“When you manage national teams, sometimes there is no match for 15 days or a month. But with a club, you can be involved with the sport every day,” he added.

Zico is expected to lead Al Gharafa’s training camp in Europe later this month.  THE PENINSULA
