Doha: Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri is participating in the ministerial-level session of the 110th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland in the presence of labour ministers and representatives of workers and employers of ILO member states.

The participation of the Ministry of Labour with a high-level delegation in the  International Labour Conference comes as part of its efforts to communicate with international organisations and discuss the latest developments in the labour sector globally.

Their Excellencies the Ministers of Labour of the member states raised various issues during the ministerial session, which was chaired by President of the International Labour Conference Claudio Moroni, Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security of Argentina, and the Vice-President of the Conference, H E Dr. Al Marri.

The 110th session of the International Labour Conference 2022 is of particular importance, especially in light of successive global crises that rendered adverse impacts on labour.

Nearly 5,000 delegates from 187 Member States are participating in the conference, representing the three parties to the labour sector — governments, employers, and workers.

The conference, which will continue until June 11, will discuss the report of the economies of the least developed countries and the Ukrainian crisis, and the reports of the Committee of Legal Experts on the conventions and recommendations of the International Labour Organization.

The plenary sessions of the conference will also discuss issues of decent work, social and solidarity economy, and the strategic objective of employment as part of the follow-up mechanism to the ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalisation.

The International Labour Conference, aka ‘International Labour Parliament’, is held in Geneva annually to set the general policies of the International Labour Organization, including conventions and recommendations.

H E Dr. Al Marri met separately with H E Nasri Abu Jaish, Palestinian Minister of Labour and H E Dr. Ruba Jaradat, ILO Regional Director for the Arab States, separately. During the two meetings, they reviewed joint cooperation relations, especially in the fields of labour and employment, and ways to support and develop them.
