DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) Sunday announced the launch of its Ramadan campaign for this year. Under the initiative, the charitable organization will spend QR100m (about $27.5m) both inside and outside of Qatar on targeted projects, including distributing Iftar meals and conducting healthcare and awareness related programmes.

“Our Holy Month campaign involves Ramadan-specific and year-round humanitarian projects like shelter, health, food and non-food assistance, water and sanitation, education, family development, and social/health awareness with a total budget of nearly QR 100 million”, Saleh bin Ali Al Mohannadi, QRC Secretary General told reporters.

QRC Campaign Manager Ahmed Al Khulaifi added: “Locally, the QRC will conduct a Ramadan Iftar tent, medical examinations and awareness at mosques, Iftar meal distributions in streets, and hospital visits to support the patients. There will be social events such as 'Recite and Ascend,' 'This Is My Wish,' and 'Outstanding Students.'

Throughout the year, QRC will provide assistance to 300 poor students and 600 poor families, purchase three new ambulance vehicles and more hospital beds, and manage the Patient Support Fund for 300 patients.

At the international level, QRC will distribute food packages to the poorest in 18 countries, and 35 relief and development projects will be undertaken in nine countries - Palestine, Lebanon, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, and Mauritania.
These projects are expected to serve up to 900,000 people, he added.
