Najma Street to close for signal work

DOHA: The busy two-lane road leading to Najma and Mansoura from Al Nuaija intersection on the D-Ring Road (near the Mall) will be closed for one-and-a-half month from June 9, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said yesterday.
The closure is as part of work to convert the small roundabout near Waqod petrol station on Najma Street to a signalized intersection.
The road will be expanded by adding a third lane on the stretch extending from Al Nuaija intersection to Mansoura intersection.
This key road linking C-Ring road and D-Ring road and connecting some most crowded areas in the heart of the city has been witnessing heavy traffic jams, especially in peak hours.
During the temporary closure, motorists have been advised to use available interior roads to reach their desired destinations.
Meanwhile, the “electricity” roundabout on the E-Ring road that connects with Abu Hamour and Al Nuaija (Mall) intersection will also be converted into a signal controlled intersection, Al Sharq reported.
As part of this project, a section of the E-Ring road between the former parachute roundabout (now converted into intersection) and electricity roundabout will be developed into four lanes, the daily said, quoting Sheikha Al Jefairi, a member of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) representing the Old Airport area.
She said Ashghal has positively responded to her proposal in this regard and this project is expected to be implemented by the end of this year.
