With more traffic radar cameras installed across the country, the number of violations caught by radars has increased to 128,624 in January this year from 121,200 in December last year. This represents a monthly increase of 6.1% and an annual increase of 47%.
Radar catches speeding by drivers as well as overtaking from right, driving without seat belts and using phone while driving.
These figures were revealed in the Qatar Monthly Statistics Bulletin for January 2017 of the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.
Overall, 188,173 traffic violations were registered in January this year, compared to 178,565 violations caught in December 2016, showing a monthly increase of 5.4% compared with the previous month.
The total number of violations related to jumping red light reached 2,696, registering a monthly increase of 14.5%. However, data showed an annual decrease of 5.6% for this violation.
Meanwhile, the demographic statistics show that Qatar’s population reached more than 2.5 million at the end of January this year with an annual increase of 6.3% compared with the same period last year, from about 2.4 million.
Data show that the total number of births touched 2,126 and deaths 192 during January this year.
The number of marriages was 308 and divorces 124 during the same month.
A total of 7,213 new vehicles were registered during the same period.
