Occupied Jerusalem, December 06 (QNA) - The Grand Mufti of Palestine and Jerusalem, Sheikh Mohammad Hussein warned on Sunday against the implications of calls made by Jewish organizations upon their followers to organize visits to Al-Aqsa Mosque from Sunday to Thursday to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.
Sheikh Mohammad Hussein said in a statement, that such provocative visits dismiss Israel’s claims that it is maintaining the status quo there.
Hussein also condemned Israel’s setting up of Jewish structures at the site of al-Buraq Wall (Western Wall) outside the mosque, a practice which he said constitutes a blatant violation against Islamic sanctuaries.
This came as Jewish fanatics accompanied by a police escort broke into the holy site to mark the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah.
Israeli police set up checkpoints at the entrance gates of the mosque; where they checked the identity cards of Palestinians and searched many of them prior to their entry. About 60 Palestinian women were also denied entry during the provocative settlers’ visit, Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported.
