DOHA: A new unit of the Medical Commission was opened at the Workers Health Center in Mesaimeer on Sunday. This facility is expected to reduce the pressure on the main centre in Abu Hamour.
This is the second satellite centre of the Medical Commission exclusively serving expatriate single workers. The first was opened at the workers health centre in Industrial Area about two years ago. The new workers-only health centre located near the Religious Complex in Mesaimeer became functional a couple of months ago.
The new unit has a capacity to serve 500 workers daily, Dr Ibrahim Al Shaar, director of the Medical Commission told this daily. It will function from 7am to 9pm. A third unit of Medical Commission serving single workers will soon open in Ras Laffan, he added.
On the first day, the facility received about 100 visitors and it is expected to increase in the days to come. Companies can book appointments for their workers through the Supreme Council of Health website www.sch.gov.qa.
Online booking for appointments at the Medical Commission is now available for housemaids and families who are under personal sponsorship.
“Online booking is mandatory for companies while it is optional for people under personal sponsorship,” said Al Shaar.
He added that a number of families and domestic workers are benefiting from this service and it has helped reduce the rush at the main Medical Commission premises.
“Besides housemaids, a number of families are now coming with prior appointments. You will not find long queues at the Medical Commission these days,” said Al Shaar. The Peninsula
