Doha: A preparatory meeting of the undersecretaries for tourism affairs in the GCC states yesterday began a meeting to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation ahead of a second meeting of the GCC tourism ministers to be held here tomorrow. The meeting seeks to enhance decision-making, transfer of knowledge, and identify cooperation frameworks between GCC travel and tourism sectors.
Speaking at the opening session, Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) Chairman Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi praised efforts being exerted to activate GCC joint action in the field of tourism.
He called on participants to discuss issues and joint programmes and identify challenges that faced objectives approved by the GCC tourism ministers in their first meeting in Kuwait.
Assistant Secretary-General for Cultural and Media Affairs of GCC Khaled Al Ghassani stressed that the GCC General Secretariat attaches great hopes to this meeting, which aims to focus on revitalisation of intra-tourism through activating tourism strategy for the GCC in collaboration with cultural and commercial aspects in each country.
