Doha, Qatar: Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) has reminded travellers to take necessary health precautions before embarking on their journeys, emphasising the importance of advance planning, vaccinations and managing existing health conditions while travelling.
In a social media awareness message titled ‘Stay Healthy While Travelling,’ HMC advised travellers to seek medical guidance before departure if required and ensure they carry all prescribed medications they may need during their trip.
The corporation highlighted the importance of planning travel vaccinations based on the destination country. Travellers may require vaccines against diseases including hepatitis, tetanus, poliomyelitis, meningococcal disease, yellow fever and typhoid.
These vaccinations are available at the Travel Clinic at HMC’s Communicable Diseases Center, and travellers are advised to receive them at least two weeks before departure to ensure optimal protection.
HMC also issued specific advice for people living with chronic conditions, recommending that they consult their healthcare providers four to six weeks before travelling. They should carry an adequate supply of their regular medications, along with a medical report or identification card detailing their health condition.
Travellers are also encouraged to pack a basic first-aid kit to help manage minor health issues during their journey.
Following their return, HMC advised travellers to remain alert to any unusual symptoms and seek medical attention if they develop symptoms such as fever, rash or diarrhoea. They should also inform healthcare providers about the countries or regions they have visited to support accurate diagnosis and treatment.
