Doha: Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino has set his sights on a successful spell with Al Sadd, aiming to help Qatar’s most decorated football club reach new heights after signing a two-year contract with the Wolves.
“My hope, goal and aspiration is to leave a mark with the team and to continue achieving victories with Al Sadd,” Firmino said in his first interview on Al Sadd’s official X platform, following his move from Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli Saudi FC.
“I am here to contribute in the best way possible, through my work and my expertise. I came here to help the team.”
The former Liverpool star expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received upon joining the club.
“I am very happy to finally be here with this great team and this special group of players. I feel like I am at home. A great number of Brazilian players welcomed me and even the local players, who are very nice people,” he said.
The 33-year-old joined the squad in Spain, where Al Sadd conducted a training camp under the supervision of coach Felix Sanchez.
Firmino said he is pleased with the quality of preparations.
“It is a new experience for me, with a new philosophy. I am admiring the excitement and the level of performance from the players during this preparatory stage, where we get to know each other. The atmosphere is great and I am enjoying this stage,” he said. “I hope we give it our all during preparation so that we can apply everything we learn.”
Al Sadd continued their winning run last season, securing both the Qatar Stars League and the Qatar Cup titles. Firmino said the objective remains unchanged.
“What matters eventually is that we win championships, and that is what we all are aiming for,” he added.
Al Sadd will host Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca in a friendly at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium on August 10, before launching their QSL title defence against Qatar SC at the same venue on August 16.
