DOHA: Al Arabi yesterday announced the signing of Spanish defender Javier Hernandez (pictured) on loan from Spainish club Leganes. Arabi unveiled the new signing through a video posted on its official social media accounts, featuring the 27-year-old wearing the club’s jersey.

In a statement on its official website, Leganes confirmed: “An agreement has been reached with Qatari club Al Arabi regarding the loan of defender Javier Hernandez for the 2025/2026 season, with an option to buy at the end of the season.”

Hernandez, who joined Leganes in the summer of 2020 from Real Madrid, remains under contract with the Spanish club until 2027.

Prior to this move, he had loan spells with Girona during the 2022/2023 season and Cadiz in 2023/2024.

The signing is part of Arabi’s active recruitment drive this summer. The club has also secured high-profile signings including French midfielder Jordan Veretout,

Spanish winger Pablo Sarabia and Kenyan striker Michael Olunga, as they bolster their squad ahead of the new season.
