Doha, Qatar: The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced the registration of a new cash endowment valued at QR320,000, contributed by two benefactors to support the construction of a mosque.

The endowment, placed under the supervision of the General Directorate of Endowments, is designated specifically for building a mosque outside Qatar. This condition reflects the donors’ intention to extend the impact of charitable giving beyond national borders and support communities in need of places of worship.

According to the endowment deed, the Directorate will oversee the implementation of the donors’ conditions, ensuring that the funds are allocated appropriately and managed with transparency and precision within established institutional frameworks.

This type of direct endowment model focuses on achieving immediate impact by channelling funds into a clearly defined project, enabling swift execution and fulfillment of the intended charitable purpose.

Ali Hamad Al-Muhannadi Al-Marri, Assistant Director of the Endowment Expenditures Department at the General Directorate of Endowments, emphasised that endowments dedicated to mosque construction are among the most significant forms of charitable giving due to their profound role in promoting goodness and strengthening spiritual values within communities.

He noted that the initiative reflects growing awareness among donors about the importance of directing funds toward specific and impactful endowment projects that directly benefit people’s lives and provide suitable environments for worship.

Al-Marri also underlined Qatar’s longstanding tradition of charitable contributions, particularly in mosque construction, tracing it back to the country’s founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani, who established endowments both within and beyond Qatar. He affirmed that such ongoing initiatives demonstrate the deep-rooted culture of philanthropy in Qatari society and reinforce the role of endowments as sustainable development tools with lasting impact.

He further explained that charitable acts, especially endowments, contribute to the stability and cohesion of societies by fostering solidarity and compassion.

Al-Marri clarified that while charity may provide temporary benefit, an endowment represents a continuous charity, where the principal remains preserved and its returns are directed toward sustained causes, such as building mosques or supporting other charitable initiatives.

The General Directorate of Endowments called on philanthropists and members of the public to contribute to endowment projects through various channels, including online donations via its official website, mobile services, and dedicated hotline numbers, enabling them to establish ongoing charitable contributions with lasting rewards.
