DOHA: The Family Consultation Center in Qatar has proposed to develop family guidance and reconciliation as a profession in the GCC countries and lay down unified rules and standards in this area.
The proposal was raised at the first meeting of officials from the family counselling centres in the GCC countries which began here yesterday. Rashid bin Ahmed Al Dosari, executive manager of the center said in his presentation that family counselling should be promoted in the GCC countries as a profession and special training should be given to the existing counsellors to help them legalise their services. Al Dosari also proposed to prepare a unified code of conduct for family guidance at the GCC level. This should include the religious and ethical standards, moral practices, culture and traditions in the Gulf countries.
Family guidance and reconciliation centers and practitioners in the region and can be accredited according to these standards and code of conduct. He also proposed to set up a federation for family guidance and reconciliation centers and institutions in the GCC countries to promote the profession and lay down rules and regulations.
