Doha: Qatar Chamber’s Environment Committee, a subsidiary of the Food Security and Environment Committee, recently held a meeting at the Chamber’s venue to discuss obstacles facing the recycling of tires.
The meeting was chaired by Dr Saif Al Hajari, the committee’s chair, in the presence of Mohamed bin Ahmed Al Obaidly, QC board member and chair of the Food Security and Environment Committee.
The meeting was also attended by director of waste management at the Ministry of Municipality, Hamad Jassim Al Bahr.
Discussions revolved around the comments received by the committee from factories operating in recycling of tires regarding the operational obstacles facing such factories.
The committee recommended conducting a simplified study to identify the needs of the current and future recycling plants, including the dumps in the factories, the support process, and adherence to the requirements and mechanisms that are agreed upon between the municipality and recycling factories, in addition to addressing the competent authorities.
It also recommended that the follow-up of support for tire recycling factories shall be through the Qatar Chamber, and that material and logistical support shall be priority to Qatari companies and factories working in tire recycling.
The committee also recommended studying the merger of the three factories with one of the major factories to increase their competitiveness and sustainability, preserve the environment and use local resources in a more effective and efficient manner.
