Doha: Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) has concluded ‘Win the Challenge’ campaign launched in February to raise awareness of World Cancer Day.
Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy supported the cause by lighting up Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, a FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 stadium, in orange colour, to raise awareness of World Cancer Day.
The gesture was to support the global campaign that was launched under the slogan ‘close the gap in cancer care,’ led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC). The Society is one of its members and a member of the advisory committee for the global campaign for World Cancer Day. ‘Win the challenge’ campaign, which continued over the past month, with participation of many institutions, to raise community awareness of the disease, methods of prevention, early detection, and to promote the concept of justice in the fight against cancer through many events, activities, and competitions, in addition to virtual workshops and awareness campaigns across platforms.
In addition, some of Doha’s landmarks are lit in orange, to signify the celebration of World Cancer Day. Within the framework of the preventive measures to limit the spread of COVID-19, several awareness videos for the campaign were produced with the participation of public figures, as well as awareness competitions on social media platforms and virtual awareness workshops about cancer.
A virtual workshop for capacity building of cancer awareness promoters and another in partnership with MoPH for health workers were held as part of the campaign, in addition to publishing stories of hope on many platforms and involving people living with cancer in virtual workshops, as well as a fundraising campaign.
Many institutions and companies in Qatar participated in the World Cancer Day campaign, believing in social responsibility and with keenness to support and strengthen community partnerships to leave a sustainable impact in Qatar and participate in raising awareness of cancer and ways to prevent it, as well as support those living with cancer.
