The Grade 10 music students from ISL Qatar had the privilege of being invited to attend a workshop at Katara with the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) and the renowned Brazilian conductor, Claudio Cohen. Cohen, from Brazil, was in Doha at the invitation of the Qatar Brazil 2014 Year of Culture to celebrate music with the people of Doha.
The Brazilian conductor was working with the Orchestra on a program of Brazilian music along with Dvorak’s New World Symphony. The students were delighted as Maestro Cohen interrupted his rehearsal to give them a talk on the Orchestra and the role of the conductor. He then had each section of the Orchestra perform to the students and they were a private audience to the rehearsals for the upcoming concert.
