‘Chirps of Irkaya’ expo opens to highlight Qatar’s wildlife

DOHA: A total of 120 photographs of birds and rare animals are featured at the ‘Chirps of Irkaya’ wildlife exhibition which opened yesterday at City Centre Doha.
The exhibition was organised in observance of World Environment Day under the theme ‘Seven Billion Dreams. One Planet. Consume with Care’.
Aimed to showcase and raise awareness about the wide spectrum of Qatar’s wildlife, the exhibition includes world-class photos of mostly unseen wildlife of Qatar in its natural habitat.
Minister of Environment 
H E Ahmed Amer Mohamed Al Humaidi and Al Faisal Holding Chairman Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani opened the exhibition organised by the ministry in collaboration with Oryx GTL.
Unesco Doha Office Director Dr Anna Paolini, Oryx GTL Chief Commercial Officer Mohamed Al Mushiri along with officials from the ministry attended the launch of the exhibition which runs until June 11.
Al Humaidi told reporters that Qatar is one of the important locations for migratory birds and the ministry has put in place regulations to  preserve the environment.
He said the ministry has signed agreements with the UN and other international organisations for the protection of the environment and is carrying out efforts to preserve the environment and raise awareness.
New programmes will be launched in the near future, he added.
Sheikh Faisal praised initiatives and efforts of the ministry to protect the environment, particularly its awareness campaign to highlight Qatar’s wildlife and the environment.
The Peninsula
