Ooredoo yesterday announced that it will be the main sponsor for Disaster Management Camp in Qatar for the next three years.
The annual Disaster Management Camp is now in its seventh year and is held in coordination with Qatari government and non-governmental organisations, including the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), and the United Nations.
The purpose of the camp is to build a well-trained base of volunteers who can respond to disasters timely and effectively, enhance coordination with relevant organisations and authorities, minimise casualties and property losses, and help communities recover from any future disasters.
Talking about the agreement, Manar Khalifa Al Muraikhi, Director of Community & Public Relations, Ooredoo said: “This long-term sponsorship agreement aims to give this important event the support that it needs to continue its work in Qatar and the region. Ooredoo is proud to help build life-saving skills for the community in Arabic and we congratulate everyone attending this year’s camp.”
The camp, which this year is being held at the Marine Scout Camp, Al Khor, from April 3 to 12, is being attended by volunteers from Qatar and abroad, including 54 participants from 15 MENA National Societies from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Palestine, Somalia, Yemen, Turkey, Mauritania, Niger, Lebanon, Sudan, Afghanistan, Jordan, Egypt, and Iraq. It also features 45 trainers from several local and international organisations.
