Doha: Bahrain recorded their first win of the AFC Under-14 girls championship with a commanding 6-2 win against United Arab Emirates.

A brilliant display from five-goal hero Phoebe secured three points for Bahrain in their penultimate game of the campaign.

And coach Khaled said: “This is a new national team for Bahrain. We have tried to do our best. We are looking to see how we can win and progress. Today we saw signs of what we are trying to achieve.

“We have tried to build a good national team for the future. “

Bahrain took the lead after just four minutes when midfielder Phoebe scored her second goal of the tournament with a spectacular strike direct from a corner.

It was a great moment for the youngster, who had scored an equally spectacular goal against Palestine the previous day.

Phoebe added a third goal after 12 minutes when she scored from the penalty spot. Salha Rashid pulled one back for UAE after 22 minutes with a lovely free-kick.

Just before half-hour mark the impressive Phoebe grabbed her hat-trick after smashing a great shot past UAEkeeper Dalal Al Hammadi. Mariam Al Jasmi had the chance to pull one back for the UAE after 50 minutes but her shot was saved. Second later, however, Naeema Juma showed great composure to roll a great finish under keeper Roza.

Bahrain captain Phoebe was dominating the match and she scored her fourth of the match by flicking over the line from close just before the hour mark. A minute late she scored number five with a great free-kick that sailed into the back of the net.

Bahrain substitute Jena added a sixth goal right on the final whistle to complete the victory and gain their first three points of the tournament.
