Qatar arrests 194 for spreading rumors and misleading content online

Doha: The Qatari Economic and Cyber Crimes Combating Department at the General Directorate of Criminal Investigationhas arrested 194 individuals of various nationalities for producing and sharing misleading information and rumors related to recent developments, the Ministry of Interior said

In a statement, the ministry said the arrests were carried out by the Economic and Cyber Crimes Combating Department under the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation

The suspects were arrested for filming and circulating video clips and publishing misleading information and rumors that contribute to stirring public opinion and contradict instructions issued by relevant authorities

The ministry said legal and administrative measures have been taken against those involved.

It also warned the public against filming or sharing videos and rumors related to ongoing field developments, stressing the importance of obtaining information only from official sources.

The ministry affirmed that it will not hesitate to take necessary legal action against violators who publish misleading content or material that could incite public opinion.
