Doha, Qatar: The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing rehabilitation programmes and promoting sustainability through its ongoing partnership with Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs (QSRSN), underscoring its developmental role in supporting persons with disabilities.
The announcement was made during a press conference held last week at the Directorate’s headquarters, where officials reviewed the extended cooperation framework between the two entities and highlighted the tangible impact of endowment-funded initiatives on beneficiaries’ lives.
Eng Hassan bin Abdullah Al Marzouqi, Director-General of the General Directorate of Endowments, described the partnership as a well-established model of integrated efforts aimed at serving a valued segment of society.
He emphasised that the relationship between the Directorate and organisations supporting persons with disabilities is deeply rooted and has been translated into projects and programs that fulfil donors’ conditions and ensure that endowment revenues reach eligible beneficiaries.
Al Marzouqi explained that the Healthcare Endowment Fund reflects the historic role of health-focused endowments in community development. He described it as a sustainable mechanism to support healthcare services and empower the most vulnerable groups, particularly persons with disabilities, highlighting the endowment’s role as a key partner in social development.
He further stressed that supporting persons with disabilities goes beyond financial assistance to ensuring equal opportunities and creating an enabling environment that allows them to actively participate in society. These efforts, he noted, align with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to good health and well-being, quality education, and reduced inequalities, reinforcing the principle of inclusive development that leaves no one behind. Al Marzouqi also extended his appreciation to donors whose contributions form the cornerstone of these initiatives and ensure their continued impact.
Talib Afifa, Board Member of the Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs, said the support provided by the General Directorate of Endowments has directly empowered beneficiaries and strengthened their social integration.
He noted that endowment funding has enabled the provision of essential assistive devices, including hearing aids, wheelchairs, crutches, and other daily necessities required by beneficiaries. Rising costs of such devices, he explained, pose significant challenges for many families, and the endowment support has helped ease financial burdens and ensure timely access to vital equipment.
Afifa added that this assistance has had a positive impact on family and social stability, allowing beneficiaries to continue their education and daily activities with greater independence. He described the partnership as a distinguished model of institutional cooperation, where the charitable dimension of endowments intersects with professional rehabilitation services to serve individuals effectively.
