Heavy rains are expected to lash parts of the country, with the unstable weather intensifying until today afternoon.
This has been attributed to the low pressure in the upper atmosphere expected to last until tomorrow. Strong winds and high seas are expected today accompanied by thunderstorms in offshore areas, the Meteorology Department said yesterday.
The weather bureau said the country was still under the influence of atmospheric instability, due a low pressure in the upper atmosphere. The condition is expected to continue until tomorrow morning. The "partly cloudy to cloudy skies" will continue with light to moderate rains over parts of the country, becoming heavy with thunder at times.
However, the Department expects the unstable weather to intensify further until today afternoon. The wind during the period would be blowing at moderate speeds in the north-easterly to north-westerly direction, though it would become stronger during thunderstorms.
Today, the weather would be hazy with cloudy skies resulting in scattered rains, accompanied by thunder at times. The northwesterly winds would blow at 5 to 15 knots going up to 25 knots during thunderstorms, inshore. Offshore, the wind speed would be 10 to 20 knots, going up to 22 knots during thunder, and at night the speed would increase to between 18 to 24 knots in the north of the country.
Visibility would be 4 to 8 km, at times becoming less than 3 km at places. Temperature in Doha would be between 23 to 19 degrees Celsius today, while Dukhan and Abu Samrah would have a maximum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, followed by Al Khor at 24 degrees Celsius. Messaieed and Al Wakrah would have maximum temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius and Ruwais is expected to have 20 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, Messaieed, Al Wakrah, Al Khor, Ruwais and Abu Samrah would have a minimum temperature of 18 degrees Celsius, while Dukhan would have 17 degrees Celsius.
The weather bureau has advised public to be cautious and avoid going into the sea during the period.
