GAC intensifying efforts to enhance skills of inspectors

The General Authority of Customs (GAC) organised an awareness lecture aimed to improve customs inspectors’ skills to detect  counterfeit products. The event also focused on enhancing inspectors’ awareness on  commercial fraud and protection of intellectual property rights.
The lectures were held at Qatar University and General Authority  of Customs headquarters as part of the Arab Customs Day  that is marked on March 3 every year.
The first lecture, which was held at the GAC, saw the participation of a number of the GAC officials, in addition to officials from the Ministry of Economy and Commerce and Qatar Chamber.
Ahmed Eisa Al Mohannadi, Assistant Chairman of the General Authority of Customs stressed on the need to fight against counterfeit goods, mentioning that the authority is making an intensified effort to enhance skills of inspectors.
He also stressed on the importance on cooperation between various authorities concerned, in protecting consumer rights.
The second lecture was held at Qatar University  to promote awareness about customs work procedure  and their role of protecting commercial fraud, among the university students.
Customs inspectors were also given updated information about the latest means of fighting commercial fraud and protecting intellectual property rights inside the country.They were also informed about commercial methods of deception which smugglers follow, in addition to explanation about difference between original goods and counterfeit ones .This was to make it easy for customs inspectors to know the difference between the two types during inspection.
The participants appreciated the  lectures and discussions mostly about examples of violation of intellectual property rights and commercial fraud that inspectors are detecting at customs outlets and how they deal with it legally.
