Smart City Solutions project first phase implemented

Doha, Qatar:  As part of its efforts to humanise cities and improve urban services, the Ministry of Municipality (MoM) implemented the first phase of the Smart City Solutions Project, marking a significant step forward in Qatar’s journey towards smarter, more sustainable and people-centred urban development.

The initiative reflects the Ministry’s broader 2025 achievements, which focused on improving quality of life, protecting the environment and accelerating digital transformation across the country.

One of the most prominent projects launched during the year was the first phase of the Smart City Solutions Project, dedicated to smart waste management in Al Wakrah City, according to the annual achievement report of the Ministry of Municipality for 2025, issued recently.  

The project delivered tangible environmental and operational results, contributing directly to sustainability goals. Monthly carbon emissions were reduced by an average of 578 tonnes of CO2, while the number of waste containers collected daily fell by 42 percent.

In parallel, the number of compactors used in operations was reduced by 50 percent, leading to improved efficiency and a monthly fuel saving of approximately 18,000 litres. These outcomes underline the Ministry’s commitment to adopting innovative technologies that reduce environmental impact while enhancing service quality. Digital transformation remained a central pillar of the Ministry’s work in 2025. A total of 287 electronic services were developed and enhanced to improve accessibility and efficiency.

These included 250 services available through the Ministry’s official website and 168 services offered via the “Oun” mobile application, enabling users to complete transactions quickly and seamlessly.

Over the course of the year, the Ministry issued 15,162 building permits, supported by streamlined digital procedures and the launch of an artificial intelligence-powered building permit system. In addition, the Unified Electronic Inspection Project was introduced to standardise inspection processes and strengthen transparency and oversight. 

The Ministry also achieved a major milestone in document management and institutional efficiency. Since the launch of the digitisation project, more than 30 million documents have been digitised and archived, supporting faster access to information, improved governance and long-term data preservation.

Environmental protection and sustainable development were further reinforced through initiatives in agriculture and green spaces.

In 2025, the Ministry distributed 1,864 greenhouses equipped with modern irrigation networks, benefiting 715 farms nationwide and supporting local agricultural productivity.

Public amenities also saw notable expansion, with 155 public parks across the country, including two newly established parks.

The total area of green spaces reached 18 million square metres, contributing to healthier urban environments and enhanced community well-being.

At the national level, Qatar achieved a global milestone in learning and knowledge development.
