He highlighted the importance of the meeting which followed meetings, including the 13th Crime Congress in Qatar in April this year that adopted Doha Declaration on integrating crime prevention and criminal justice into the wider UN agenda.
He said policies and institutions of criminal justice must better reflect the contribution and role of women as part of the Post-2015 Development Agenda, stressing the need to ensure safe and peaceful societies to fulfil obligations to achieve sustainable development.
Sustainable development cannot be achieved without ending all forms of discrimination and violence against women and ensuring effective participation of women in political and economic life, he added.
