Doha: Qatar University College of Education hosted a visit by a six-member team from LNG Corporation (LNG Japan) and RasGas Company Limited.
QU Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer Dr Humaid Al Midfaa and college Dean Dr Hissa Sadiq welcomed LNG Japan Chairman and Executive Director Yasunori Takagi, President and CEO Norikazu Onishi, Business Development & Operations Division Deputy COO Nori Kawai, Gas Business Department 2 General Manager Nobuaki Terao, and Doha Liaison Office General Manager Katsuharu Tsuda, and RasGas Company Limited Acting General Counsel Flynn Jennings. QU Associate Vice-President for Facilities & IT Dr Khalid Naji, Capital Projects Department Director Engineer Khalid Halabi and Associate Professor of Early Childhood at the college Dr Chris Coughlin were present.
Discussions focused on progress in construction of new Training Centre for Early Childhood Teachers jointly funded by QU and LNG Japan with $5m. The team also visited the project site.
Dr Al Midfaa highlighted the importance of education from early childhood and said it helps develop young minds towards critical thinking and problem-solving and encourages curiosity, initiative and creativity.
“Through the centre, QU is contributing to the country’s human and social development strategies and its mission to prepare the younger generation for the responsibility of leadership of its progress and development.
“I thank the college, LNG Japan and RasGas Company Limited for making the centre a reality.”
Takagi said: “We are honoured to be part of such a prestigious project which highlights the fulfilment of Qatar National Vision 2030. Human resources are important for the prosperity of every country. We, LNG Japan, are honoured to be given this opportunity.”
The project launched in 2007, is part of the college’s Early Childhood Centre, a focus of an agreement signed in May 2013 between QU and LNG Japan to advance training for early childhood teachers.
The centre will benefit 210 children in 2-5 age group and enhance the quality of academic programmes offered by the college and develop related research. It will also offer training courses, workshops and educational and psychological counselling to parents.
The new building over an area of 5005sqm will international environmental and renewable energy standards. It is 42 percent complete and is expected to open next June.
