Doha: Aster Medical Centre-Qatar, a division of Aster DM Healthcare, marked World Heart Day 2015 with an interactive session and a week-long free cardiac check-up in cooperation with Aster Cardiology Club.
The session on cardiovascular problems was held at Hotel Holiday Villa, led by Dr Manoj P Nair, Lead Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeon, Aster Medcity, Kochi, and Prof Dr Raveendran P, Specialist Interventional Cardiologist, Aster Medical Centre, Al Hilal. It was supported by Dr Sameer Moopan, CEO, Aster DM Healthcare-Qatar, and Dr George Davis, Manager-International Business, Aster Medcity, Kochi.
The free, open-to-all week was held at Aster Medical Centre, Al Hilal, from September 21 to 30.
Aster Cardiology Club is an initiative of Aster that brings together expert cardiologists to conduct specialised informative sessions for club members, along with free medical check-ups.
Dr Nair said,“Aster Medcity has all advanced facilities, including robotic cardiac surgery, where the use of a computer-controlled but surgeon-operated surgical system would be routinely deployed in a minimally invasive manner with far greater surgical precision. This type of surgery would treat heart ailments such as blocked arteries and valve diseases. Using the procedure, patient care can be improved due to shorter hospital stay, lesser pain, faster resumption of normal activity and minimal scarring.”
Dr Raveendran said: “With the increase of lifestyle diseases like cholesterol, obesity, hypertension, heart attack cases have also raised. Heart attack, or myocardial infarction, is permanent damage to the heart muscle which means death of tissue due to lack of blood supply. Smoking, hypertension, high cholesterol levels, diabetes, unhealthy dietary practices, obesity, illicit drug use, excessive alcohol consumption, family history, lack of exercise, work stress, among others, increase the risk of heart attacks by many-folds. Discomfort or pain in the chest or beneath the breastbone, dizziness, sweating, nausea, vomiting, choking and indigestion are some of the symptoms of heart attack.”
Dr Moopan said, “We are pleased with the response we have got to our endeavour to educate people on heart diseases. It is important to raise awareness and encourage individuals, families and communities to take action to reduce the burden of heart disease and stroke. We do everything in our capacity to ensure that we really ‘treat you well’ as our motto suggests.”
The celebrations were part of Aster Community Good Health Programme, under Aster DM Healthcare to promote good health and well-being among the people. The Peninsula
