Doha: The Qatar Rugby and Hockey Committee announced the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement with the Fiji Rugby Union.
The agreement aims to establish an advanced institutional partnership that enhances the technical and administrative aspects of the game, supports governance and the exchange of expertise, and implements specialized training programs and high-level workshops that contribute to capacity development and raising the efficiency of national cadres.
The signing ceremony took place in the Lusail Hall at the Qatar Olympic Committee headquarters.
The agreement was signed by Yousef Jeham Al Kuwari, President of the Qatar Rugby and Hockey Committee, and John Ian, Chairman of the Fiji Rugby Union.
The signing ceremony was attended by Non-Resident Ambassador of the Republic of Fiji to the State of Qatar HE Siddiq Faizal Riyad Koya, along with a number of officials and sports enthusiasts.
The agreement stipulates cooperation in organising joint training camps, holding quality sporting events and competitions, as well as launching technical and development workshops targeting players, coaches, referees, and administrators, thus enhancing the game's development regionally and internationally.
In this context, Al Kuwari emphasized that the agreement represents a strategic step within the committee's plan to develop rugby in Qatar, saying: "We are proud to cooperate with one of the world's most prominent rugby union federations. Through this partnership, we look forward to developing national cadres and opening new horizons for excellence at the international level."
For his part, John Ian expressed his appreciation for this initiative, emphasizing the Fijian Federation's aspiration to expand sports cooperation with Qatar.
"This agreement embodies our two countries' commitment to strengthening sporting relations and forms a basis for launching joint initiatives that contribute to the development of rugby globally," he said.
This step comes within the framework of the Qatar Rugby and Hockey Committee's strategy to establish an effective international partnership network that keeps pace with global best practices and contributes to building a professional environment that supports the presence of Qatari rugby on the international stage.
