Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Chess Association (QCA) has successfully concluded the Qatar Foundation Primary Schools Championship 2026, held in cooperation with Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and the Ministry of Sports and Youth.

The tournament featured 47 players representing six schools and highlighted the growing popularity of chess among young students in Qatar.

In the boys’ competition, Nasser Faisal Al Thani of My Academy and Ibrahim Tutunji of Qatar Academy Doha shared first place with 5.5 points each. Abdulrahman Al Saifi of My Academy finished second with five points, while Arman Ramjan and Ahmed Al Hawaj of Qatar Academy Msheireb secured third place with 4.5 points.

Qatar Academy Doha dominated the girls’ category, with Sofia Zubertska claiming first place ahead of Aisha Abdulaziz Al Khalifa and Munira Al Mohannadi. The school also won the team title.

QCA Executive Director Hamad Al-Tamimi praised the partnership with Qatar Foundation, noting that the championship showcased promising talent and supported efforts to promote chess culture among students.

The event forms part of an ongoing agreement between the two organisations aimed at expanding chess participation in schools, increasing the number of FIDE-rated players, and developing a strong foundation for the sport across Qatar.
