Task force to study GCC legal affairs committee

DOHA: A GCC Parliamentary Coordination Committee, with members from the Advisory Councils and National Assemblies from member-states, has decided to set up a task force to study the possibility of forming an internal legal affairs panel.
This panel is to be on the lines of legal affairs committees the Advisory Council or National Assembly of each member state has.
The Parliamentary Committee’s initiative is to find a legal mechanism to help make it (the Committee) do its job in the area of its specialization at the GCC level.
In other words, the Committee needs to have a legal basis within the GCC legislative systems so that it legally performs its job of framing GCC-vide laws and ensuring their implementation.
The legal task force will have its first meeting on the issue and report its deliberations to the Parliamentary Committee at its next meeting.
By July-end each member state’s Advisory Council or National Assembly will nominate a legal expert from among its members to the task force.
The task force will frame a draft law on the above-cited issue and refer it to the GCC Parliamentary Committee which will meet ahead of a meeting of Heads of GCC Advisory Councils/National Assemblies before September-end, reports QNA.
