Nairobi: The death toll from floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains in Kenya has risen to 18, police said on Sunday.
In a statement, police said landslides were recorded in Tharaka-Nithi, Elgeyo-Marakwet and Kiambu counties in central and eastern parts of the country following days of sustained rainfall.
The National Police Service has confirmed 18 fatalities, underscoring the serious risks posed by the prevailing weather conditions, the statement said.
Kenya has been experiencing heavy rains that have damaged infrastructure and displaced residents as the March-May rainy season peaks.
