With only a year to go before the 2016 national and local elections, President Aquino has finally filled up the three vacancies in the seven-man Commission on Elections (Comelec).

The President has appointed Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) chief Andres D. Bautista as the new head of Comelec.

Also appointed were former Cadiz City mayor Rowena Amelia V. Guanzon and lawyer Sheriff M. Abas as new commissioners, according to Deputy presidential spokeswoman Abigail Valte.

All three new poll officials will serve until February 2, 2022. The ad interim appointments, issued by the President, have also been transmitted to the Commission on Appointments.

“The expectation is for these newly-appointed officials to help the Commission carry out its constitutional mandate of keeping elections clean, orderly and honest,” Valte said.
