Doha: Qatar will be looking to secure a crucial win over high-flying Vietnam when the two sides meet in their second AFC U20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023 Group B encounter today.

Qatar suffered a 0-1 loss in the hands of Iran on Wednesday while Vietnam enjoyed a dream start with a 1-0 defeat of Australia.

Following the disappointing result against Iran, head coach Inaki Abadia stressed that Qatar must improve to salvage their campaign.

“We are coming off a very tough game against Iran,” said Abadia.

“We had our chances but were unable to convert them. We know where we need to improve when we face Vietnam.

“One of the key areas of improvement will be ball possession. We must be able to hold on to the ball much longer. That is crucial for our next game. We must not allow Vietnam to play from box to box, which we did against Iran.”

Meanwhile, Vietnam, bolstered by the win and their impressive attacking and defensive display against Australia, are determined to maintain their momentum against Qatar.

“We performed outstandingly against Australia and I would have to thank the players for showing discipline and courage on the field,” said Vietnam head coach Hoang Anh Tuan.

“We know we will be up against a strong opponent in the form of Qatar but we must continue to perform at a high level to make sure we finish the game on top. Our tactics were spot on against Australia and we will need to do the same against Qatar.”

“I’m very happy with the way we played against Australia, the level of discipline - especially in defence - was well executed by my players. Australia couldn’t break down our defence and that is a positive aspect to take into our game against Qatar.

“We hope the fans at the Istiqlol Stadium continue to support the team. During the match against Australia the spectators were like our 12th man. They cheered us on and I hope they do the same in the next game.”
