Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies at the Education City is also home to the iconic Education City Mosque. The building contains symbolic and poetic references to Islam and its civilisation. The facility will be hosting free public lecture series this month
From Japanese Islamic poetry to alternative currencies, to an exploration of diabetes in Qatar to role of Islamic finance when building successful small businesses, the Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) will hear experts discussing a variety of subjects this month as part of its free public lecture series.
These monthly lectures, which are delivered by speakers who are leaders in their fields, are aimed at a general audience as they often address contemporary issues that affect people’s daily lives. HBKU’s College of Islamic Studies (CIS) will be hosting most of the events.
HBKU’s College of Law and Public Policy (CLPP) will be holding a public colloquium titled “The Regulation of Cryptocurrencies” on Wednesday March 15 at CIS, conference room 1, from 4 pm to 6 pm. The colloquium intends to generate awareness and facilitate a better understanding of the actors, phenomena and dynamics of FinTech – the intersection of finance and technology – with a focus on the Middle East. Speaking at the event will be Mohammad Zebian, Innovation Manager at Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP), and Dr Yazan Boshmaf, Research Scientist at HBKU’s Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI).
On the same day, a lecture will tackle importance of small and medium size industries in Qatar and explore suitability of Islamic finance to their development. To be held at CIS auditorium, from 7 pm to 9 pm, the lecture will touch upon importance of SME’s, in their role in alleviating poverty, increasing employment rate.
