QNA

Doha, Qatar: The Qatar Calendar House announced today that the skies of Qatar will witness the last supermoon of the year tomorrow, Thursday evening, December 4, 2025.

In a statement, QCH said that this full moon will be quite different from the usual full moon, appearing approximately 14% larger and 30% brighter than normal due to its closest approach to Earth.

Dr. Bashir Marzouq, an astronomer at the Qatar Calendar House, stated that residents of Qatar can enjoy viewing and observing the last supermoon of the year with the naked eye from 4:01pm tomorrow evening until 6:05am Doha time on Friday morning.

Dr. Marzouq noted that Qatar witnessed a supermoon last November.

The two conditions for a supermoon phenomenon to occur are: the moon must be in its full phase, and it must reach its closest point to Earth in its orbit at the same time.

The moon orbits the Earth in an elliptical path, passing through two points during its orbit once every lunar month. One point is called apogee, when the moon is at its farthest point from Earth, at a distance of approximately 406,000 kilometers. The other point is called perigee, when the moon is at its closest point to Earth, at a distance of approximately 356,000 kilometers.
