MOCI organizes workshop on geographical indications in cooperation with GCC IP Training Center

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCi), in cooperation with the Intellectual Property (IP) Training Center of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, organized a training workshop on geographical indications, from Dec. 2 to 3, with the participation of relevant departments within the ministry.

The workshop aimed to enhance employee engagement and build their capacities in the fields of geographical indications and appellations of origin.

The training program covered several key topics, including an introduction to geographical indications, the Lisbon System for the international protection of appellations of origin, the Geneva Act, as well as the conditions and procedures for international registration, mechanisms for refusal and granting of protection, and the inclusion of the Arabic language as a working language in the international registration systems of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

This workshop comes as part of the ministry's efforts to support the legislative and regulatory environment for intellectual property, empower its staff to keep pace with international developments in the protection of geographical indications and appellations of origin, and promote the implementation of best practices in this field.
