The forums of Indian doctors in Qatar, The Indian Doctors Club (IDC) and Indian medical Association – Qatar (IMA-Q) conducted a Continuous Medical Education (CME) on “Endocrine Emergencies” recently at the Holiday Villa Hotel.
Dr Mohammed Ali Elrishi, consultant Endocrinologist from Al Ahli Hospital, discussed Endocrine Emergencies. He explained how dysfunction of endocrine glands could result in medical emergencies. The chemicals released by these glands are responsible for the harmonious functioning of other organ systems. During the malfunction of these glands, there can be features of brain, heart, gastrointestinal tract or kidney involvement. Therefore the focus of medical attention may be diverted to the treatment of these organ systems.
“An index of suspicion developed through knowledge of these conditions and the various ways they can present to the physician is the key step in their recognition,” he said.
Thereafter, he listed the respective diagnostic tests and treatment protocols to manage each of these emergencies. The CME was well attended by member doctors.
