The Changanacherry NSS College Alumni Association, Qatar Chapter (CHANSS-Qatar) celebrated Kerala Piravi, which marks the birth of the southern Indian state of Kerala, at a grand function at the Crystal Palace Hotel here yesterday.
The State was created on November 1, 1956, and Malayalees around the world celebrate this day as the birthday of Kerala.
More than 300 people attended the celebrations, which featured several events reflecting Kerala’s rich cultural heritage and legacy.
Thiruvathirakali (a typical group dance by women), bharathanatyam (solo classical dance), other dances and songs kept the audience spell-bound for almost three hours.
The legend of Onam was also depicted with a traditional welcome to ‘Mahabali’.
The programme got off with a song by CHANSS Advisory Committee member P S Venugopal. President Bindu Varghese welcomed the gathering. Patron Satish G Pillai, former president Varghese Mathew and General Secretary Giridharan Nair also spoke.
