190 stamps, 220 coins and currencies auctioned as part of GCC exhibition

DOHA: A total of 190 stamps and 220 coins and banknotes have been auctioned on the sidelines of the 20th Gulf Stamps Exhibition at Landmark Mall.
The exhibition which ends today is showcasing 160 frames of stamps documenting the history of GCC states, Arab and other countries. 
Organised by Qatar Postal Services (Q-Post) in cooperation with Qatar Club for Amateurs of Collecting Stamps and Coins, the event has attracted a large number of stamp and currency collectors.
Many philatelists and numismatists are taking part in this edition of the expo which is attracting many visitors because of the variety of collection, said Hussain Rajev Ismail, Executive Member, Qatar Club for Amateurs of Collecting Stamps and Coins.
The collection on display includes 40 frames of stamps from Qatar which cover history, tradition and daily life of Qataris.
Ismail praised Qatari collectors, many of whom youth who have very rare collections of stamps and currencies. The expo features very rare historical stamps, including those used in official internal correspondence in the US which are 188 years old.
Launched by Minister of Communication and Information Technology H E Dr Hessa Sultan Al Jaber, the expo is hosting participants from all GCC states and a large number of amateur associations for collecting stamps.
It is held annually and alternately on the sidelines of meetings of GCC postal directors.
