Qatar, Iran ties reviewed

Doha: Assistant Foreign Minister H E Mohamed bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi yesterday met Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian. Talks dealt with relations between both countries, latest regional and international developments and topics of mutual interest. Several Foreign Ministry officials were present.

Indonesian FM meets Qatar envoy


Jakarta: Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno L P Marsudi met Qatari Ambassador Mohammed bin Khater Al Khater and discussed cooperation between both countries in all fields, especially in the economic and investment domains and ways of enhancing them. Marsudi stressed strong bilateral relations. 

QTA appoints expo centre operators


Doha: Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) has announced appointment of Elan Qatar and Fira Barcelona to manage and run Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre (DECC).
Issa bin Mohamed Al Mohannadi, Chairman, QTA, and his Elan counterpart Abdelazziz bin Nasser Al Khalifa signed an agreement. QTA handed over the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE) facility to the consortium.
The media and entertainment company Elan, earlier known as q.media, and Fira Barcelona won the tender beating the world’s top 10 venue management firms. Built by Qatari Diar over 90,000sqm, the facility has five large pillar-free halls and each can accommodate about 3,500 delegates. The centre is a few minutes away from the

Corniche waterfront and many five-star hotels.


Hamad Al Abdan, Exhibitions Director, QTA said, “We aim to increase visitors to Qatar by 20 percent over the next five years. MICE is key to achieving it. The venue will propel Qatar’s reputation of a globally competitive MICE destination.”
Jaber Al Ansari, CEO, Elan Group, said, “We are partnering with Fira Barcelona to develop and manage this venue that will affirm Qatar’s position as a leader in MICE industry.” Events this year include 50 annual exhibitions that assemble visitors from sectors, including  medicine, education, real estate and handicrafts.
