Emir congratulates Kuwait Emir on winning UNSC seat

Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani sent  a cable of congratulations to the Emir of Kuwait H H Sheikh Sabah Al Jaber Al Ahmad Al Sabah on the occasion of Kuwait being elected  as non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2018 and 2019.  The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the election of Kuwait reflects its high status internationally, due to its wise policies and transparent and balanced diplomacy.

The Foreign Ministry statement stressed that Kuwait's gaining of the seat will enhance the security and stability of the region in line with the principles of the UN Charter and the provisions of international law. 

The foreign ministry's statement expressed Qatar's confidence that Kuwait can benefit from its distinguished relationship with UN members, particularly in Middle East, will help follow up the implementation of Security Council resolutions related to crises in the region. Kuwait will also encourage the Security Council to prevent any further crises through preventive diplomacy.

Kuwait News Agency (Kuna) reported that Kuwait received 188 votes out of 192 ballots. The other four countries elected were Cote D'Ivoire (189), Equatorial Guniea (185), Poland (190) and Peru (186).
