Ottawa---The Canadian and Cuban governments signed a deal to allow more flights between their two countries, Canada's transportation minister announced Tuesday.
The deal allows "any number of Canadian and Cuban airlines" to offer services between the two countries, Minister Lisa Raitt said in a statement.
It will also make it easier to arrange connecting flights from other countries, she said.
Cuba is already Canada's third largest international air travel market, and a huge tourist draw.
The changes come as US President Barack Obama pushes to open travel between his country and Cuba as part of a broader effort to thaw Cuba ties that were set in deep freeze during the Cold War.
Congress is considering a bill that would restrict flights and cruise ships from going to Cuba, which the White House signalled it would veto.
