Doha, Qatar: Hamad, Doha, Ruwais Port handled over 291,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in first quarter (Q1) of 2026, along with around 237,000 tonnes of general cargo and more than 200,000 tonnes of bulk cargo. The ports also processed nearly 25,000 RoRo units and 75,779 heads of livestock across a total of 552 vessel calls, Mwani Qatar stated in a post on its X platform, yesterday.
The container terminals have been designed to address the increasing trade volume, enhancing ease of doing business as well as supporting the achievement of economic diversification, which is one of the most important goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The ports handled 291,147 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) containers, general and bulk cargoes stood at 237,308 tonnes and 200,464 tonnes respectively from January to March 2026. While 24,652 RORO units and 75,779 heads of livestock heads were registered in the first three month of this year.
The ports serve as an effective link between markets in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and America, contributing to reducing cargo transit time and improving the efficiency of supply chains.
Qatar ports began 2026 on a strong note with prospects appearing brighter for the country as they witnessed a robust surge in handling of container and cargo volumes in January this year compared to the same period last year.
The ports received 230 vessels in January 2026 while the container handling through the three ports stood at 128,229 TEUs. The general and bulk cargo, RORO, and livestock during the same period accounted for 94,625 tonnes, 44,675 tonnes, 10,151 units, and 26,150 heads respectively.
In February, the three ports handled 118,462 twenty-foot equivalent units, a 5 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The general cargo reached 111,967 tonnes, up 2 percent, while RORO units surged by 34 percent with 11,631 units. Additionally, 115,126 tonnes of bulk cargo and 39,613 head of livestock were handled, alongside the arrival of 237 vessels, representing a 4 percent increase.
Meanwhile in March 2026 the ports handled 44,456 TEUs containers, 30,716 tonnes of general cargo, 40,663 tonnes of bulk cargo, 2,870 RORO units, 10,016 heads of livestock.
Qatar’s main gateway to the world trade, Hamad Port marked a new milestone by being ranked first in the Gulf region for the first time and 11th worldwide in the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) 2024 issued by the World Bank in collaboration with S&P Global Market Intelligence.
