Doha: Raquel Bamba and Ryan Bamba won the Mixed Doubles mini-tournament of Flickers Qatar at Cambridge School.
Flickers Qatar is a group of badminton playing group whose numbers have swelled since its formation one year back, informed, President Carmencita Ortiaga.
“We play and practice at two venues- Cambridge school in Mamoura and at Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiya Arena in Al Sadd, three days of the week,” she said.
“Our members range from six-year-olds to members above the age of 45. The prime motto is to stay healthy through sports,” Ortiaga said.
She said some promising youngsters are emerging from the coaching programmes started by the group.
“A few youngsters have shown excellent talent and are to be watched out in the future. They have excelled by winning some Qatar based tournaments,” she added.
The group conduct tournaments throughout the year among the 150 odd members and classify their players according to the proficiency of the sports in the in-house competitions. “The beginners of the game are clubbed in Group D and they compete among themselves, while the experienced one sees action in Group A,” added Ortiaga.
